In accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, schools and districts are required to make Annual Yearly Progress (AYP).  Accountability and progress are measured in three areas.

Attendance: The Illinois Plan for Adequate Yearly Progress under No Child Left behind requires that Attendance rates are at least 90%. District 21 has maintained high levels of attendance rates of approximately 95%.

Participation: The Illinois Plan for Adequate Yearly Progress under No Child Left behind requires that 95% of students take one of the three required state assessments. In District 21, approximately 100% of students were tested in 2006.

Subgroups Meeting Academic Targets: The Equal Steps growth plan for Adequate Yearly Progress requires that 55% of students meet academic targets in Reading and Math in 2007.  District-wide, 77.8% and 84.3% of students met targets in Reading and Math respectively.  The target will increase to 62.5% for the 2007 school year and continue to increase by 7.5% each year until 2014.

Changes for 2006: There were two major changes for school year 2005-2006.  The first required that all students in grades 3-8 were tested in reading and mathematics.  This is different from previous years where students were only tested in grades 3, 5, and 8.  The second involved a change in the company developing the test.  Because of these two changes, care should be taken when comparing 2006 and 2007 results to previous testing years.
